Tom Bednar, Elizabeth Oquendo, and Theresa Brabson, attended the three day Gimbel Advocacy Training for public interest attorneys in October at Rutgers-Camden School of Law. The training, in its inaugural year, was started by the Philadelphia Bar Foundation. The program provided training in trial advocacy skills such as openings, closings, direct and cross examinations, use of exhibits, refreshing recollection of witnesses and impeachment of witnesses. The three days proved to be incredibly valuable and all three attorneys learned invaluable trial skills that they will be able to utilize immediately in their own practice.
On Tuesday September 24, 2013, LCD Staff Attorneys Elizabeth Oquendo and Eileen Carroll presented a training to Social Work staff at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children on Law and Ethics. Social Workers were trained on the medical-legal partnership (MLP) model of delivering legal services in the healthcare setting and the ethical issues that arise for both professions when working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Approximately 12 social workers attended the training, which was approved for continuing education credit.
